Early morning, you will
prepare yourself ready to encounter one of Bwindi’s gentle giants in the
forest. A briefing from the UWA staff about the trekking and a few rules.
Remember to pack your raincoat, boots, and some drinking water. It’s also
advised to have done some medical checkup because you will have to be checked
before the trekking and this is because Mountain
gorillas are highly susceptible to human diseases. About 5 Primate
species, 113 species of mammals, 200 butterflies & 300 birds can be found
in the impenetrable forest. There are nine habituated Gorilla groups/ families and each group will be
tracked by not more than a group of 8 tourists. This exciting journey along the
forested slopes, entwined vines, bushes & bamboo is indeed overwhelming and
remember to carry a camera with good or extra battery. Your guide will be
pointing out previous gorilla activity including dung nests and chewed bamboo
shoots. It takes about 2 – 7hours to track the mountain gorillas depending on
how far they have gone. After gorilla tracking, you will be transferred to
Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park and if lucky you will spot the
tree climbing Lions.
