The Arusha National Park, a small (137 sq km) but beautiful African park, is the closest Tanzanian National Wildlife Park to both the famous “safari town” of Arusha (29 km), as well as the Kilimanjaro International Airport, thus making it ideal for day safaris, even from Moshi (65 km). Not only is the wildlife in the Arusha National Park abundant, but it is also one of the most beautiful and topographically varied game reserves in Tanzania. The African Arusha National Park’s three most significant features include the rugged Mount Meru (Tanzania’s second highest peak at 456.

Unforgotten Pearl

Near the city of Arusha and the Kenyan border lies another scenic highlight of Tanzania, Arusha National Park. Its heart is the 4566 meter high Mount Meru, which is a popular destination for mountaineers. The park has an incredible variety of flora and fauna, which cannot fail to impress. Hollywood also chose this park to film the movie “Hartari” in which Hardy Kruger starred alongside the legendary John Wayne. Arusha National Park lives a quiet life next to its siblings: Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Only few travelers visit the park, which is a pity, because with its unique vegetation Arusha National Park is surely worth a visit or two. Between Mount Meru and Ngurduto Crater are the Lakes of Momella, which are characterized by swamps, grasslands and montane forest. The mountain slopes of Mount Meru are covered by tropical rainforest, which make a nice contrast.

TOUR ITINERARY

In the morning we leave from Moshi at 8:00 am for Arusha National Park. The drive to the park gate takes approximately 1 hour. From here you will participate in a half day walking safari and a half day game drive. You will be accompanied by an armed ranger for the walk, who will guide you through the forest up to the waterfall and the point for viewing the black and white colobus monkeys. During the game drive you will see the Lakes of Momella and the Ngurduto Crater. You will spot buffaloes, waterbucks, giraffes, warthogs, zebras and gazelles as well as different bird species. You might also see a leopard or elephants, the elephants and leopards are though a shier than the ones in Serengeti. We game drive in the park till afternoon and then drive back to Moshi.

Day 1 – Arrival Kilimanjaro

Once you have arrived safely at Kilimanjaro airport you will be met by one of our friendly driver who will transfer you to the Hotel in Moshi. Should you arrive early you can explore the small town of Moshi, which is only a short taxi ride away, or you can just relax at the lodge and get ready for the days ahead. You will also meet with one of our operations staff and Guide who will explain everything you need to know regarding your trek and check all your equipment.

Moshi – Arusha National Park

07:30hrs: Depart Moshi by Safari Jeep to Arusha National Park.

10:00hrs: Arrive at the park and proceed on a Game drive. Animals expected to be seen include: Elephants, Dik Dik, Leopards, zebra, giraffe, ostrich and different kind of birds.

13:00hrs: At lunch time you will stop at a nice picnic site and enjoy an amazing lunch. Thereafter, you will proceed on a game drive.

16:00hrs: You will depart the National park and proceed to Moshi town.

18:00hrs: You will arrive at Moshi town thereafter, transfer to your hotel/residence.
