The Marangu Route is one of the popular paths for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. It's often referred to as the "Coca-Cola" route due to its facilities and huts along the way. While it's possible to complete the climb in 6 days via the Marangu Route, it's important to note that this route tends to have a higher rate of unsuccessful summit attempts due to its relatively fast ascent and lower acclimatization time compared to other longer routes.
Here's a general itinerary for a 6-day climb via the Marangu Route:
Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
- Arrive in Moshi, Tanzania, and transfer to your hotel/lodge. This day might involve briefing sessions with your trekking company and guides, as well as equipment checks.
Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
- Start your trek at the Marangu Gate (1,860m/6,102ft) after registering at the Kilimanjaro National Park offices.
- Hike through the rainforest to reach the Mandara Hut (2,700m/8,858ft). The trekking duration is around 4-5 hours.
Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
