Overview

Experience one of nature’s most dramatic spectacles — the Great Wildebeest Calving Season — on this 5-day Ndutu Migration Safari. Between January and March, over 8,000 wildebeest calves are born daily across the Southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains. Witness the circle of life unfold as predators like lions, cheetahs, and hyenas roam nearby.

This safari is perfect for wildlife lovers and photographers who want to capture the raw beauty and intensity of the migration, all while staying in comfortable midrange lodges and tented camps.

Day-by-Day ItineraryDay 1: Arusha – Serengeti South (Ndutu Area)

Begin your adventure with a scenic drive from Arusha or Kilimanjaro to the Southern Serengeti. Pass through local villages, coffee farms, and endless open plains before arriving in the Ndutu area — the heart of the calving season.
Enjoy an afternoon game drive where thousands of wildebeest and zebras gather, and witness newborn calves taking their first steps while predators lurk nearby.

Accommodation: Ndutu Safari Lodge / Ndutu Wild Camp
Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: Full Day in Ndutu – Calving Season Action

Spend a full day exploring the Ndutu plains with morning and afternoon game drives. Thanks to special off-road access, you can safely get close to wildlife scenes — from mothers nursing calves to predators hunting in the tall grass.
Lions, cheetahs, and hyenas dominate this area during calving season, making it one of the most thrilling times to visit. Photography enthusiasts will have unforgettable opportunities to capture these rare moments.

Accommodation: Ndutu Safari Lodge / Ndutu Wild Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Ndutu – Central Serengeti (Seronera)

After breakfast, travel north toward Central Serengeti. The Seronera region is famous for its resident big cats and scenic landscapes dotted with kopjes and acacia trees.
Enjoy a picnic lunch on the way, followed by an afternoon game drive where you might spot lions resting in the shade, leopards perched in trees, and elephants grazing peacefully.

Accommodation: Tanzania Bush Camp – Serengeti
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Start the day with a sunrise game drive when predators are most active. Then, depart Serengeti and travel through the Ngorongoro Highlands, enjoying views of Maasai villages and beautiful escarpments.
Arrive at your lodge near the crater rim in the evening, where you can relax and enjoy the breathtaking views.

Accommodation: Ngorongoro Wild Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater – Return to Arusha

After an early breakfast, descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to nearly all of Africa’s wildlife, including elephants, lions, buffalo, and the endangered black rhino.
After a picnic lunch by a hippo pool, drive back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport, marking the end of your unforgettable safari.
