Built just before independence between 1954 and 1956, the Abidjan Town Hall, now District Hotel, is located on the Boulevard de la Republique in the Plateau. The architect Henry Chaumette whose architectural firm was involved in the construction of a large number of buildings throughout West Africa. A flagship building incorporating symbolic elements of African heritage, the Hôtel du District stands out for its modernity in the 1950s Plateau.
